Lethal Intention

Reviewed by Mike Belfance

I can't believe I've been putting off reviewing this movie for so long, as far as short action movies go, this is really well done! A few drama elements have been thrown in to make it more interesting, but this is essentially a P.A.M. Two guys we know little about get into a gun fight with the cops. What makes this movie great is the way that the gun fight plays out. The director knows- if your going to make a pointless action movie, at least make a stylish, cool looking pointless action movie.

As I said, the storyline is pretty thin. The movie starts out with the two main characters talking to each other. Nothing important, just basically about how they don't want to go back to jail. About halfway through the movie, you learn one of them has a family- there, there's your character development. Despite this though, the drama in the movie actually works pretty well. This is probably because the voice acting is very good, and the writing is pretty okay also. However, let's be honest, this isn't a movie you watch for the touching dramatic scenes, you watch it for the gunfight (which takes up about 90% of this short movie). Luckily, the gunfight (though it features a gross overuse of the infamous "bullet time" effect) is very well animated and directed.

One thing people are going to either love or hate is the fact that the movie uses the much argued over "widescreen" effect. Yes, the effect is essentially useless, since 3dmm is basically already in widescreen. That being said, I also think it kind of makes the movie seem more "cinematic". yeah, it's kind of a cheap way to give your movie some cinematic flare, but hey, it works in my opinion. Besides this, the movie has a lot of interesting camera angles, making the action just really neat to watch. It's so cool in fact, that when the movie stops for a dramatic moment, you can't help but think to yourself "yeah, yeah, okay, GET BACK TO THE SHOOTING ALREADY!". What hurts the drama is the movies short length. The director doesn't take much time to develop any of the movies characters, so when their dramatic scenes show up, you can respect how well directed and acted they are, but you can't really care too much about them.

Still, in a movie of this type, if the action is good (which it is...have I mentioned that yet?) it can easily carry the movie for it's short length. I'm pretty sick of "bullet time" effects, but it's done well enough that it works here. This is definitely one of the better P.A.M.'s I've seen. It would have been better if it were longer (then at least the drama scenes would have worked more) but if your looking for a quick, well-directed shoot out, you can't go wrong with "Lethal Intention". I give it a 80% out of 100%.
